The conservation area occupies an area of 21.32 hectares. It can be considered in two parts; the area around Newport Road which incorporates Church Lane and Cecil Street and extends north as far as St Johns Road and College Close, and the are around Nettleham Road which is enclosed between Northgate, Langworthgate, St Giles Avenue and Middletons Field.
