The conservation area covers the historic core of the village and therefore encompasses the majority of the properties lining High Street/Hale Road and also takes in the northern section of George Street. The Church of St Andrew’s sits at the very centre of the conservation area. The conservation area covers a total area of 9.66 hectares.

The conservation area is primarily residential.

The conservation area contains 5 listed buildings including 1 Grade II* (Manor Farmhouse – late 17th century) and 1 Grade I (St Andrew’s Church and Churchyard - c.1200, late C13, C14, C17, restored 1891).
