Frequently asked questions

If you have a question which does not feature below please feel free to contact us.

Do I need any previous skills or experience?

No previous experience is necessary as full training will be given. Volunteers will be offered free training and support from project staff and you will be regarded as a valued member of the Lincolnshire Heritage at Risk team.

How much time am I expected to commit?

There is no minimum expectation of volunteers who register as Heritage Stewards. We understand that some will want to offer lots of time while others will need to fit their contribution into their other commitments. Any help you can offer will be gratefully received!

Do I need my own transport?

Volunteers are expected to carry out surveys in their local area therefore little or no travel will be required. Should you need to travel to area in order to carry out surveys we can reimburse your travel costs, this includes mileage for those driving or train/bus fare for those using public transport. Please see our expenses policy for details.

Do I need to be good with IT?

Volunteers can download information from this website and can enter the results by logging into the database. For those who are not confident with IT, the survey forms can be supplied by Heritage Lincolnshire and returned as paper copies.

Do I need my own camera?

Each survey should be accompanied by photographs of the heritage asset so you will need a camera to carry out the surveys. This does not need to be a specialist camera, if you do not own a digital camera then we can cover the cost of photo processing (see our expenses policy). We also have a small number of project cameras that we can loan to volunteers.
