The conservation area encompasses almost the whole of the built village of Brant Broughton except for a number of properties to the west of West Street including those off Mill Lane. It is linear in form and thereby mirrors the pattern of the settlement along High Street and to its west. The conservation area covers an area of 30.84 hectares.
The conservation area primarily consists of residential properties but also contains a small amount of commercial, industrial and agricultural (both current and former) buildings.
The conservation area contains 37 listed buildings including the Grade II* ‘The Priory’ (built in 1658) and ‘Lister Place’ (a house dating back to 1720). The Grade I listed buildings are the ‘Meeting House of the Society of Friends’ (c. 1701) and ‘St Helen's church and churchyard’ (dating back to the 11th century and restored and altered in 1873-76 by G F Bodley).
