The conservation area is essentially linear in form and follows the line of Main Street and Brookside, both running east-west. It extends from Vicarage Lane in the east to Beckside in the west (but also including those buildings on the south side of Beckside except for no. 35.) The conservation area also includes the buildings on Farrier’s Court and Bridge Lane. The conservation area covers a total of 9.0 hectares.
The conservation is primarily residential in nature.
The conservation area contains 10 Grade II listed buildings and 1 Grade II* building (Church of the Holy Cross - C12, C13, C14, C17 restored 1852 and 1884).
