The conservation area boundary runs south along the rear of the properties to the west of Wilsthorpe Road before turning east at the south of the village following the boundaries of Walland House and Walnut Cottage. It then runs east following further boundaries before turning north when it reaches East Glen River where it follows the west bank of the river until reaching Wilsthorpe Road. The conservation area covers a total of 16.81 hectares.
The conservation area is predominantly residential with occasional agricultural buildings.
The conservation area contains 10 listed buildings including the Grade I listed St Margaret’s church (dating back to the 14th century with 18th century alterations).
