Barkston

The conservation area can be divided into 4 parts: West Street, Barkston House, the village green and Church Street. West Street is lined with vernacular buildings predominantly ironstone with pantile roofs. Barkston House and its grounds form an attractive green space to the south of the village and is bordered by mature trees and boundary walls to the south, the river Witham to west, West Street to the north and a block wall to the east. The village green forms a focal point within the conservation area and is best viewed from the north as this view incorporates The Stag pub, a grade II listed limestone property. Church Street consists of a number of ironstone and limestone properties from the 18th and 19th centuries. The east end of Church Street is dominated by grass verges, the war memorial and the church and its grounds that contain a variety of mature trees. The conservation area covers a total of 9.98 hectares.

The conservation area primarily consists of residential properties.

There are 8 grade II listed buildings in the conservation area and 1 grade I listed building – St Nicholas Church, dating back to the 12th century.
